just bought the TV last weekend. based on two previous reviews, we were a little hesitant to buy. But we tend to be early, and I have been looking for a reason to sign up for Google TV.
TV is really about two parts: 1) TV, and 2) software. I will call them individually.
TV is what you expect from Sony. solid, beautifully designed, solid metal frame. The picture quality is excellent. expected number of inputs. You can not really complain about TV. We had a Samsung TV that had a cheap tuner and would not pick up all decode digital channels, but this TV did. we own other Sony and knew they had a solid tuner built in. We would never buy a Samsung again because of the cheap tuner. It is a moot point if you have a cable box, but not everyone will have an extra box.
software. First up is Sony typically UI software ok. even with our 52-inch BRAVIA XBR is the user interface is not something to brag about. even if the interface is better than the Vizio and other smaller brands, but you buy a TV, do not you buy the software. With Google TV, which TV UI is refreshing. Unfortunately, if you've read anything online about Google TV, so it is really in its infancy stages. The number of applications is limited. This can be resolved by updates to be pushed out regularly by the Google TV team. programs tend to be more responsive remote control button presses than previous comments, but really the user interface is a menu that lets you surf the Google Chrome. I think the program has plenty of room to grow, and that's why I can not give the TV 5 stars yet.
So in summary
Pro:
Solid image quality
Good Tuner
Google UI better than Sony's previous UI
Cons:
Google TV is still in infancy
Remote control looks cool, but the volume and channel buttons should be larger
Overall, it is fixed. If you want something groundbreaking, this is a good product. Just be aware that the software is fully able to grow. I have no regrets buying this product.
